Reflection on my micro-teaching 1

Well, today, Tuesday November 27th, 2012, I applied my lesson plan on Subject pronouns with G3, the three sections. The three periods were highly successful, especially after my micro teaching in the Methodology; but, with minimal changes. I used the direct instruction strategy .The strength of my lesson was in particular  by using gestural prompts for demonstrating the pronouns and then allow students to act them out in front of  their peers. I made sure that instructions were very clear, and I tested it from time to time through their feedback. Also the time management was very good .In reality, I needed to explain exercise 2, which was their homework, because most of my students’ parents   don’t know English. I made sure to keep the space, most of the time, for sometimes I need to check on closely particular students. I used the power point presentation at the beginning in my real class in order to gain their attention. It worked better than in my Micro-teaching. The warm up activity was very important to introduce my topic in the right direction. I didn't check their previous work, because in fact this the first grammar lesson for my student. I followed exactly my lesson plan using the deductive method of teaching. I did present and structure the new content .Every while I make sure students are participating and responding. Usually I am very nice to my students, but firm. Not to forget, in my micro-teaching I didn't practice group work, but in my class I made sure to involve my students into group work, thank you a lot Dr.

Reflection on Indirect Method
Ms. Sue was teaching a mathematics lesson to 2nd grade. A very good warm up activity is being used to start with her new chapter. She prepared bags of colored jellybeans for each student, to distinguish colors, count their numbers and taste them, it took her about 3 minutes. She made sure they are not using their pencils to write, only their little fingers and their rational thinking. The object lesson was launched by asking questions ;that is ,passing responsibility for learning to students, allow them sometime to think, collect information, orqanize it ,then analyze it by the students themselves, with the teacher help on the bar graph. For example, “how many more people like green?””Yes move forward to the board and show us.”
The teacher used problem question, and encouraged students to volunteer. She was always among students making sure, they understood the given problem question. This is an inductive way of teaching, as a conceptual movement, for Sue used a real life situation ,so that students will come up with the rule .She used more examples to seek more clarification, not to forget she did provide question hints that call their attention to inappropriate responses and correct it themselves .Finally we can say some indirect strategies were seen in Sue’s methodology of teaching, which helped her complete the mission successfully.

Date: Monday, November 19th, 2012                                                          Lesson Topic: Subject Pronouns

1)      Lesson Objective: Introduce pronouns to grade three students, in particular the subject pronouns .Make sure they know how to use  them in the proper subject places, and understand the concept.
2)      Procedures:
-Introductory activities: Look at the book and read activity 1, emphasize on the pronouns. (Warm up activity for 5 min.)

-Developmental activity: First write the rule on the corner of the board under the date-of course the unit title on the right, written from the beginning-the rule is :A Pronoun is a word used to replace a noun. A subject Pronoun is when a Pronoun is used in a sentence as the SUBJECT. Ex: Mike ran the race. He ran the race.
-Second: Write the subject pronouns on the board :
                             I             I am a teacher.
                           You          You are a student.
Singular            He            He :dad ,boy ,Karam ….
                           She           She :mom,sister,Samia….
                            It               It :table ,cat,tree…..

We             Mom and I ,My parents and I,  ….
  Plural              You            You are students…..
They            Tom and Jerry, My brothers………

Pick up some students to practice subject pronouns with their help, by showing and indicating on him/her and the whole class+ table, chalk…(10min)
-          Show them a power point presentation(Prounouns+Pictures-U tube) (2-5min)

_ Closing activity: Practice ex.1 (write:he,she,it or they under the picture) Do it directly in class.(3min)

3) Instructional Material: Round up Student book, USB, Handouts.
Make sure to repeat the rule from time to time, to make sure after the practice, for the positive feedback.(3min)
4) Evaluation of the students: Distribute Handout no 2; complete the sentences .Explain the instructions carefully, and give it to them as  HW(Roundup,Ex.2 p1).(2-5min)
-Allow time for students to repeat and say the pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they-showing them by indicating to persons and things.(2min)
-Rephrase the rule: Subject is the doer, and subject pronouns replace the subject. We use them a lot in speaking and in writing.Ex. :Shady is English. He is a teacher, and he teaches in Lebanon.(3min)
Final comment: today we took subject Pronouns, so prepare yourself for next time in Grammar to study what? Let students guess what?------------ Pronouns, yes OBJECT PRONOUNS.(2-5min)

Unit topics:Types of teacher Planning
Lesson topic :Identify the components of a daily lesson plan

1-Lesson objectives:As suggested by Mager(1984),each performance objective should include:
   a)an action statement
   b)a condition statement
   c)a criterion statement

a)it is mainly stated to meet the student expectations, that is to know ,understand, appreiciate ,enjoy
      or believe.

   b)conditions or circumstances include:
1)materials given to students by their teacher
      2)time limits for task completion
3)location that is where is the task to take place

c)criterion statement ,or standard of performance

2-Procedures:start with  a warm up activity(15min)
   a)Run out two different examples
allow students to work in groups
    (bring a topic from internet)

    b)Developmental activities

    c)closing activities

Note:This is not the final lesson plan,it is the first draft, which I have on my notebook,
but I got a virus on my USB,everything I open a page come along with it so
I cannot see my work,if I close it the whole file will close.
A professional IT is  working on it,I have my school tests on it too.
Well,he taught me how to post on my'blog'So I will send you a primary plan
for I don't remember the rest,or the appendix.

Thank you
